About the Authors:
Avid rockhounds with a lifelong interest in rocks and minerals since the 50s, Myers and Petrovic worked together for nearly a quarter of a century by combining their professional training with a hobbyist passion, daily sharing their knowledge with others.
K. Myers’ business background spans 40 years of sales and management in a variety of industries, retail sales, gem show productions, jewelry design, and fabrication, as well as web design and development, recently retired from FACETS Gem & Mineral Gallery in Newport, Oregon. Today she continues on with these publications and her interest in the hobby and the industry.
< - - Petrovic, an independent gemologist who worked in the retail jewelry trade from 1972 and retired in August 2011, designed and developed a class entitled “The Many FACETS of Gems & Minerals” which he taught at the Oregon Coast Community College (Newport, Oregon). He was recognized for his continued education in mineralogy by the Gemological Institute of America on numerous occasions. The Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies have also honored his contributions.
In 2007 after many years of selling thousands of the previous book, AGATES OF THE OREGON COAST by Rufus H. Cate, they bought the remaining inventory of the business and sold out in no time at all. This best selling book of Rufus Cate has over the years proven to be an inspiration to legions of beachcombers. Knowing that there was more to share on this subject they chose to do a totally new book from scratch, featuring their educational background and own specimens.
The Beachcombers Gem Scoop featured above is available through Wesley's Trading Post, in Newport, Oregon.
